UNIVERSITY PROFESSORS.
(By Telegraph,—Hnecial ComsDotuJenU "Christohurch, July 29. ' Speaking at the meeting of the Canterbury College Board of Governors to-day, tho chairman (Mr. J. C. Adams) said the president-elect had stated at the annual .meeting of tho Educational Institute on Saturday that ho could not understand why tho College Board went out of the Dominion for iis professors when .thero were so many good men present in the Dominion capable of acting. He supposed that the reference was to tho appointment of a professor of classics, but tho vacancy had been advertised in New Zealand and the Commonwealth, as well us at Home, and only one application was received from the colonies, and that application was not accompanied by any testimonials whatever. That seemed to show that if thero were any good men in the colonics they did not want tho appointment. The same course was followed in the case of other appointments, and four of the present staff of professors, were cither New Zcalandors or colonials.
