The annual gathering in connection with the Hawko's Bay Amateur Boxing Championships is to bo held at tho Princess i'hoatre this evening. A special trophy is being presented for the most scientific boxer. In (he absence of Mr. S. Gregory,, Mr. Rosenberg will act as referee. Some months ago application was mudo bv Mr. Gavin Allan (secretary of the Hastings General Labourers' Association) to the Department of Labour for the erection of six workers' homes under the Workers' Dwellings Act. The deposits (.£lO in eacli case) were lodged with the Secretary of the Labour Department, and the necessary formalities completed, but nothing further was heard of the matter till some days ago, when Mr. Allan received a letter from the Department stating that Mr. Lomas would visit Hastings shortly for the purpose of inspecting the. Wall Estate in Murdoch Road and Gnrnett Street, and tivo other properties under ofl'er for site for workers' dwellings. Mr. George Land, chairman of the. Hastings .District School Committee, nnd Mr, W. Morgan, of (ho Hawke'S Isa ( v Education Board are leaving for Wellington to interview the Minister for Education in furtherance of the request for a to purchase an acre of land adjoining the Hastings School ground for tho use of tho agricultural classes of tlw Technical School.
