A suitable site for a new drill hall in ' Palmerston North has been engaging tho , attention of tho military authorities, and. Lieutenant H. O. Knox is at present here , for tlie pm'pose of choosing one. IJnder [ tho same roof, also, will be tho Welling- [ , ton District Headquarters and artillery stables, it being tho intention of the Department to keep horse 3 in Palmerston ] , permanently, now that a field battery has been located there. The contract for the erection of the buildings has been let, '. and, as soon as the site lms been decided ■ upon, the work will be proceeded with. Mrs. Mary Gardner, a very old resident of Palinex-ston, died here yesterday. Deceased was 82 years of ago, and had resided in Palmerston for tho past 33 years. She wae born in County Armagh, Ireland, and, before coming to Palmerston, lived nt Hokitika. She was a respected member of tho Cuba Street Methodist Church. The Manawatu A. and P. Association : has received a brass memorial plate for : ' deceased ex-presidents. It has room for about a score of names, and, up to the present, contains those of the lato Sir. A. ; M'Hardy and Mr. G. C. Wheeler.
