CONFERENCE AT WANGANTJI. (Bj Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Wanganui, Julv 27. .Tho conference of tho Now Zealand Federation of Waterside Workers has been busy iu committee revising tho rules. On roaming last evening several interesting remits were carried, among them Loin" suggested amendments to the Industrial Arbitratipn and Workers' Compensation Acts, to remove cases of hardship. One of the suggestions for the amendment of the former Act is that a should be inserted malting it compulsory for any union to notify its creditors, including not only the federation, but private creditors also, of anv intention to cancel-registration under the Act. It was pointed out that once cancellation was affected a union ceased to be a corporate body, mid, therefore orcditors havo no opportunity of recovery. The remit further provides that all liabilities must bo paid before cancellation can be grantedthat six weeks' notice of intention to caneel must bo given; and that creditors mav lodge with the Registrar of Industrial Unions an objection to cancellation within sixteen days after tho intention-notice is given. Among other resolutions passed was one asking th# Minister for Railways to provide- straw instead of sawdust or seed husks to protect goods from dirt in railway trucks, 'ibis is an old grievance, but representations on the matter to the previous Government were without effect It was resolved to write to the Wellington, Lyttelton, and Timaru Unions with regard to their liabilities to the federation, and to point out that thou-], these aro legally and morally due, tli" iederatiou,- having the interests of the industrial movement at heart, does not wisfo to tiiko legal action to recover, though entitled to do so.
