As the Mavor (Mr. D. M'Laroh) will bo present , at the Municipal Conference as chairman, ho will be represented at tho funeral by the Town Clerk (Mr. "J. It. I'almer). The Hev. It. Mason, vicar of Oiahuhu (Auckland) has been granted six months' leave of absence. Accompanied by Mrs. Mason, ho hopes to lcavo for England in November. Mr. J. 11. Turner, senior classical master at the Auckland Grammar School, was granted.six months' leave at the last meeting of tho Board of Governors. Mr. I'. Hal ley (Conciliation Commissioner) has left Wellington for Waihi. Mr. 11. A. Rcid, F.R.C.V.S., of tho Bacteriological Laboratory of the Agricultural Department, left lor England on Saturday. Tho Rev. F. L. Paton, M.A., 8.D., son of tho noted South Sea Island Missionary is in ■Wellington (it the present time in connection with'the Australasian Christian Students' Union, an organisation which has for its aim tho inculcation of the Christian spirit among tho students of the universities. The union has a membership of 1.V2,000 scattered throughout the world, and its influence for rood is said to bo very powerful. It carries out w.ork in G2 colleges and high schools in Australia, and New Zealand. _ Tho union which is entirely undenominational, also fosters a. missionary movement among those students who may feel called to the mission fields. Mr. Paton delivered an address on "Men and Missions" at tho Y.M.C.A. yesterday afternoon, and to-morrow evening is to lecture on "Modern Movements in tho East." A very old identity of Boss and Ecefton, Mr. Elisha Lockington, aged 74, a. sawmiller, died on Saturday morning.— Press Association. Mr. W. B. Scandrett, Mayor of Invcrcargill, is on a visit to Wellington on municipal business. Tho death occurred at Pahautanui on Saturday of Mr. Charles Stewart, an old settler in the district. Deceased was 6ixty-six years of age.
