CONDUCTOR'S DEATH.
) ANOTHER TRAM ACCIDENT. 'At 5 o'clock' last evening Ambrose St'Kay, train conductor, 101 l from tho footboard of a palacp oar in Manners Stvccjl, and received injuries from which, ho dicd'nt 0.30 p.m. 'Die immediate scone of the accident was near tho Opera House. It appeared that tho conductor descended on to (ho footboard, and was about.to move along tho ear to collect fares when lie slipped, the result being a fall to tho roadway. X somewhat astonishing dolav took place before aid was rendered. Dr. Pollen was communicated with, mid on am\al ordered removal to tho shop of Air. L. M'Keir/.ic, chemist. Tho injuries were them found to bo strious, and Dr. Pollen thereupon ordered an immediate removal to tho hospital, where, as stated, Iho caic terminated fatally. 1 Deceased was o, young -married man of about 25 years of age, and hnd been in tho tramway service for about two months.
[With respect to tho accident, "Eyewitness" writes as follows , .—The car I was in stopped just prior to reaching the shop of Mr. Lon. M'Kcn/,ie, chemist, and ou investigating tho reason of its stoppage I found a crowd of people standing round tho conductor, who was lying on the road. Thero were two or three constables standing near tho motionless man, and a, bystander was assisting a constablo in attempting to etop tho flow of blood from two wound.?, ono on tho scalp and ono just under tho chin on tho chest. It was pouring with vain at the time, siiwl niter looking oiv for pome time someone announced that a. doctor had an-ivod. Dr. Pollen gavo directions for tho injured person, to bo removed into tho shop of the chemist. After being placed in a much more comfortable position, tho doctor upon examination found tho injuries to bo very serious, ami ord«r«t hia immediate removal to tho hospital. Without wishing to cast reflections, I could not help thinking that in this very distressing oase wiiuo of tho bystanders ivcre cither very callouo or very slow.]
