THE BUSINESS MAN AND RELIGION.
« Tho Rev. F. L. l'uton, H.A., 8.D., of Victoria, who is visiting the main centres of tho Dominion in the interests of'tho student- volunteer movement and the Laymen's..Missionary, movement., speaking at the I'.M.C.A. rooms at Auckland on 'luesday night, detailed the wondertul results that uva being achieved all over the ■world, and especially in America, Canada, and Australia, by the invasion ol business nien into the domain of missionary work. In Victoria a centra! council of business mea had been- formed, in connection, with all the principal churches, with a leading ninn of business as secretary, the object of the council being, [first, to introduce business methods into the raising of funds for aud the actual work of the mission field, and then to impress upon every Christian man his personal responsibility for doing something for the cause of missions. The central council of business men of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria recently sent a committee of five to Korea to investigate mission work on the spot, and report. On their return tho committee recommended strongly that the strength of the mission staff should be doubled within two years, and that ten additional men and six women should be sent out. The General Assembly adopted the proposal,, and the council of business men laid it before tho various churches, with the result that not only was all the money required for tho extension of tho work and the support of the extra missionaries for five years, guaranteed, but; an additional sum: of dC5300 towards' the home work of tho church raised. Similar results were reported from all churches where tho Laymen's Missionary movement Uad taken hold. A representative inter-denomina-tional committee has already been set up in Auckland, with Mr. Barry as secre.tary.-
