The Hutt Borough Council suggested that the grazing lease should be for a ttrm-of five years, instead of ten. A protcj<t in the same strain was received from three Hutt councillors.—Received. In connection with this matter Mr. P. N. Cameron made an offer for grazing sheep for either one or ten years, at the rate of .£SO per year, the first quarter to Iμ payable in advance. ■ Mr. M'Ewan said that the grr*ing tenders would in 110 way interfere with the sports bodies, and the committee had never had- a chance to get such rcvemio until this year. WORKERS' HOMES. In consequence of the Government acquiring land (approximately 100 sections) at 'Petone East for the purpose of erecting workers' homes, all of which has been roa'ded and drained, and another portion of about 300 sections which havo been surveyed and plotted out. tho Mayor of Petono will move at Monday night's meeting of the council that the" whole of the plans be submitted to tho Minister for Labour, and a request forwarded asking that special facilities bo granted the workers to enable them to acquire the«o sections. Tn support of his motion, the Mayor .stated-that if these sections were disposed of and built on the finances of the bnrontrh would bo materially increased. The average revenue per section would be .£2105., or a total of ,£IOOO per year. In spite of ntjitation in'the past, the Government will not agree to pay rates upon these unused lands, and any wish on their, part to do so would menii that all unnsued Crown lands in the Dominion would become rateable.
