NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW.

THE CHAIRMAN'S REVIEW

Mr. A. Conway, president of tho Manawatu A. and P. Association, in his address, at tho annual meeting, stated that the. recent National Dairy Show produced a profit of over ,£IOO, as against Mβ 12s. 6d.. last year. . It had been said they could not expect ■■ to advance much more with the show, but ho was of opinion that tho National Dairy Show was really not born yet. It was going to te a very gigantic affair. Just as -twelve years' ago knew comparatively little- about dairying, so-ten.years hence they -would look back and say that in 1912 the Dairy Show was.- a very small affair in contrast with that of .1922. When tliev started they fixed the scoring points for dairy exhibits for the £50 prize at i) 3 points, but the winner- this year scored 951. This showed.the great advance the makers liarl achieved, and. necessitated raising the standard, .as no fewer than 18 scored over 93.. They must encourage more conferences to be held—conferences of poultrynien and fruit-growers,.lectures by tho Agricultural Department's experts in reference to various sections of', their splendid exhibit, etc. It would bo a good thins if they could induce the Government to leave their exhibit in Palmerston for a longer period. He regretted that tho machinery combine kept the Show so sparsely supplied with machinery and instruments. Yet some firms actually took shops near the Showgrounds to exhibit thoir machinery. This was an a.dmission that the show was the right place for them. The Spring Show gave a profit of i£SSB 2s. "d., although the paving off of arrears absorbed'much of it, and thanks were due to the many donors of prizes. Since last February, when tho membership roll was purged down to 1220, the ' number had increased to 1363. last August the members' fees in 12 months, were ,£SQG 7s. 6d.; now they were .£933 7s. Gd. in eleven months.
