HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent-,)-In reference to the case of some Petone workers who missed the early train on Monday morning,, through, it is alleged, not being able to obtain tickets, the local railway officials state that while it was true that about twenty missed the train, it is in tho main the workers' own fault. Tickets may be obtained on the previous Saturday, and on Sundays up to 6 p.m. On Monday mornings the ticket box is open from 7 a.m. till the departure of tho 7.25 a.m. train. If the workers would, in complianeo with regulations, make applications for tickets ten minutes before starting time, double the number of persons could be served. Yesterday morning tho whistles were late, and (lie first train /was late, which might have misled those who catch the second train; but at 7.20 thero was no ono at the box, yet, three minutes afterwards, the placo was swamped with people. In' regard to tho question of using two ticket boxes, ono window is reserved for ordinary passengers and season tickets, while the other is exclusively held for workers' weeklies. If tho workers would only have a littlo consideration, seeing that they are only required to book weekly, there would never be any trouble. During the summer months there arc 400 workers' tickets issued, without trouble; but on this occasion only 300 booked. . The Wellington Dramatic Society gave a very good interpretation of the comedy "Christopher's ■ Son" at tho Palace Theatre, l'etono. last evening. . Thero was a very fair attendance, and the performance was well received. At the Lower Butt Court yesterday morning, a first offender, charged with insobriety, was convicted and discharged. Mr 0!. A. Chapman, J.P., was on tho Bench. In connection with the block of the Petono water supply, it is reported that the position is by n.o means serious. The inconvenience will be put right as soon a.s fine weather sets in. i At last night's meeting of fh© Lower I Hntt Borough Council, Councillor Hodjins gave notice to move: "That the council consider the expediency of altering their meeting night."
