GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES. By Tcletraph—Press Association—Copyritht Melbourne, July 20. In reply to « question in the Federal House of Representatives, the Minister for External Affairs (the Hon. .Tosiah Thomas) said the amounts paid by the Treasury in connection with the subsidised cable service were =£1770 in 1910-11, and .£1027 in 1911-12. No loss had been incurred in the payment of the subsidy, because increased revenue luwl obtained on the Pacific cable and land lines, while the competition had forced the other association to largely increase its cable service. ;
