c . — - THE COMMANDANT'S SCHEME. A meeting of Hid Karori Rifle Club wa.l hold iu (ho Garrison Hnll on Saturday evening to discuss a circular from the Now Zealand Killo Club's Executive recarding the conference. with General Godley,'held at Trontliam in March last. Tlio president (Mr. Marshall), who was in tlio chair, read the circular, which contained the Commandant's views on tho future of rifle clubs. In this circular, General Godley stated that the young men of the country between the ages of 18 and 21 not required for service in the Territorials would be posted to tho existing rifle clubs. This, it was stated, should bring (ho membership of tho existing clubs up to about ISO per club. Each club would then ba com. posed of two sections—tho present voluntary members, 1 " and the members . thus posted. The service members would not have a voto or any part in tho* management of the club's affairs, which would still remain in tho hands of the voluntary members, unless tho service members paid their entrance feo and became ipso factor, voluntary members. Military officers, and not tho members of tho club, would sec that the service members carried out their compulsory obligalions, llillcs would he issued to the service members, and this, it was stated, should greatly assist those clubs whicd are short of rifles. All the compulsory shooting will be done on tho cxistin? club and the Government ranges, which the Defence Department would keep in order, thus saving tho clubs a great deal of expense. The circular added that in an interview with the chairman of the executive (Mr. Marshall), General Godlov had assured him of his heartiest support mid sincere desire to improve tlie conditions of (.lie rifle clubs. General Godlcy al<;o asked that he might meet reprcson.ntives of the rifle clubs at a conference to be held in August. The executive further asked General Godley to obtain for »le to rillo clubs 500 M.L.E rifles, and this had now boon done, and tlio rifles mav be obtained. The executive wera. making everv effort to regain the old system of railway passes, and had even- conSilence that their endeavours would meet "'as it i« anticipated that the expenses of the executive will lie heavier Khan heietofnre, it was suggested by General Godley that the annual subscription of the club bo raised from 2s. Cd. to 7s. Gd. for this 5 Mr. Marshall, the president, put. the above suggestion as a motion before tho meeting. It was sxvmded by "Mr. Turner, the deputy-president,, and carried unanimously. Rifleman .T. Burns moved that o yore of thanks bo forwarded to tho executive, and that the club assure them of the el lib's hearty support and en-operatijin. The molion" boine carried, tho meeting went into committee to discuss v.irio'imalters. which are to be reported to tho executive.
