IHe contractor, however, eventually ceased operations, as it was found that tho bottom was too hard to allow of pile driving The matter was then held up for some weelcs until the Public Works Department sent officials to test whether or not pile-driving is practicable, hvidentIv the work cannot be done, as it is understood all the hands were paid on on Saturday. Much interest is being evinced in future developments.
