CHEMISTS' CHARGES.

Sir,—May I ask if you are aware of tho reason why tho Cost of Living Commission have not challenged the chargas made by chemists for their prescriptions anil for their ordinary goods. Tho prices chorged are to high as to be out. of all proportion to the value received. In Germany tho charges of chemists have been taxed for some time n,s it was found that they were charging a, mark (equal to our shilling) for what was only worth twenty pfennigs (our. .twopence) and » on. T think tho Government ought to take this matter'up.—l am, etc., CITIZEN.

THE.HIGH COMMISSIONERSHIP. Sir,—AVo aro hearing n lot about. tho High Commissioner and still nothing, of a definite nature from, the' Government and New Zealand remains under the suliervision of an undergraduate. When, wo look through all the-names mentioned, even including (hat of our (esteemed friend from the Hawke's ■ Bay I don't think any man would so fittingly fulfil the position as the Hon. T. Mackenzie. Tho reasons I come to this conclusion aro these:— (1) Mr. Mackenzie is thoroughly in touch with the farming requirements of the Dominion; (2) Mr. Mackenzie' has alrwwly had experience by representing the Canterbury farmers in London and proved himself worthy of the position,-.(3) ho has had good' Parliamentary experiences here, is ojie of the oldest members in tho House and has grown up with the wants of the country; (I) he is in the prime of life, energetic, a business man, keen and quick at grasping a situation, and abln to ndvise and advertise, the country and help to populate the Dominion with the right.class of people.' Knowing your paper to bo the farmers' friend, its influounee- will help to appoint a farmer's friend.--I am, etc.. PROGRESS. .
