THE FIJI DISTURBANCES.
Suva, July 18. The heariug of the charges against the natives concerned in the recent land disturbances has been adjourned. A commission is to inquire into tho matter.
WOULD-BE ASSASSIN SENTENCED
Hong-Konfl, July 18. Lihohung, who recently made an attempt on the life of the ,Governor, Sir Francis May, has been sentenced to imprisonment with hard labour for life.
BEQUEST FOR CAMBRIDGE.
London, July 18. The lato Mr. Charles Brinsley Marlay, of Westmeath, who left <i fortune of half a million, has bequeathed vCBO,OOO and an art collection to the Fitzwilliam Museum at Cambridge. [Sir Marlay Inherited the entailed portion of the estate of the last Earl of Belvedere.]

Sydney, July 18. The verdict at the inquest into tho Kahibah tragedy was that Kcenan murdered his wife and then Committed suicide. The evidence did not oiscloso any motive for tho crime. Tho pair wero on good terms. The husband suffered from-pains in the head.
BURNED TO DEATH,
Melbourne, July 18. A Mrs. Clarke and an infant perished in tho flames in the burning of a house at Dunn's Town, 70 miles west of Melbourne.

London, July 18. A fresh outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease has occurred at Swords, near Dublin.

Berlin, July 17. Twenty-two persons were drowued while bathing in tho River Rhine ou Monday and Tuesday last.
OBITUARY
London, July 17. Tho death is announced of the Rev. T. Bowman Stephonson, founder and honorary principal of the Children's Home. [Tho late Mr. Stephcnson was 73 years of age. He entered the Methodist ministry in 1800, and in 1891 became president of tho Wealeyan Methodist Conference. Ho presided at the Oecumenical Methodist Conferences at Washington in 1891 and in London in 1901.]
