Louis Libby was later. captured and charged with tho crimp. A great sensation has boen created.

GANG WITH A PRIVATE GRAVEYARD. According to Mr. William Flynn, chief of the Secret Service of New York, the American metropolis' beats Paris and every other- city for organised gangs of criminals, and London, by . companion, is tho most virtuous city in the world. He considers that the apaches of Paris are more puling infants by side of such monsters in crime as the . I/apomorcllo band of blackmailers, counterfeiters, and assassins, with headquarters in New York. This gang he describes as a sort of American "Mafia," which, to his personal knowledge,..is guilty of sixty murders. "On an average," sajs Mr. Flyiin, "they kill one man ft week, and there is no villainy they will not'commit. Usually you find the. victims of this gang in a barrel or hid in a drain, but I have ascertained that they have a private burying ground,- tho locality of which I hope to discover." Flynn says this terriblo gang lias influence with both political parties in New York, and it is impossiblo to oombat it." A decision to investigate New York's secret service prompted Mr. Flym-.'s outburst, to which the American press gives great attention. Mr. Flynn is indignant, because he says such an' inquiry must lay bare the names of five members of the Lupomorello band who have been working for him as investigators, and subject them to assassination'. "I would fooner rot in prison," says Mr. Flynn, "before revealing their names. These men never make affidavits or appear as witnesses, but thfey nro high in the councils of tho Lupomorello "crowd, and have given us most valuable information, for which I am very thankful: John Lupo and Cologcro Teranvn. arc suggested as witnesses before tho Congressional Committee to investigate the secret service. This is nothing but a covert threat that the identity of the Government's informants will be revealed to tho members of fho Lupomorello band of i assassins, blackmailers, and counterfeiters." Despite Mr. Flynn's protest, savs tho Now York correspondent of tho London "Telosranh." the secret service will bo investigated. The choreic made regarding "political influence" means that tho leaders or representatives of the criminal Kajw, nave accoss to the favours, of the political bosses in New York, and t.heir influenoe in preventing arrests is admittedly great.
