A MENACE TO INDIA.
TRANS-PERSIAN RAILWAY,
By TelceraDh—Press Association—Coryriiht I (Rec. July 17, i.5 a.m.) London, July IG. In the House of Lords, Lord Ciu'zon elicited from Lord Morley (Lord President of tho Council) and Lord Crowo (Secretary of State for India) that Great Britain's attitude was noncommittal towards the Trans-Persian railway scheme. Tho Government would lie free to oppose the project or secure such modification in tho ultimate plans as would bo least, detrimental to India's interests. Lord Curzon said he was not convinced by tho Ministerial statements. Tho "Daily Chronicle" denounces the projected clearing of India's strategic position. A costly pawn ought not to be jeopardised because Russia is just now our good friend. The likeliest way to end tho Anglo-Russian friendship'is to make too tempting prospects for a Russian forward movement. Tho "Daily News" (Liberal) is equally emphatic in opposing tho scheme.
