PROPOSED MARINE COUNCIL.
UNDER CONSIDERATION. The Mihister for Marine (the Hon. F. M. B. Fisher) is considering at the present time the question, of setting up an honoraiy advisory marine council, which would to some extent perform many of the functions of the Board of Trade at Home, ond would probably assist the Marine Department in the work which it undertakes. Tho matter at the present time is under consideration, the Minister holding thai, expert infowmilion would he of great value to the Department in connection with the equipment of passenger steamers with life-saving apparatus. Mr. Fisher thinks that such a board could be set up without cost to the Department, liver;' man upon the Iwarrt, li« ( stated,, would be a mariner. -The duty of the board would )x> not so much to conserve the interests of the Clovernnient as to watch over the interests of the travelling public anil cf the officers aud men by whom' the ships' trading under New Zealand law are manned.
