: 4 (From Our Special Correspondent.) . ■' - Palmerston,- July I6i Tho Palmerston High School Board'of. Governors held its monthly meeting lastevening, -Mr. W. U. Collingn'ood presiding. A letter was received from the Borough Council that water for the proposed swimming baths at the school would be supplied free of cost, and it was decided to at onco call for tenders for tho construction of a bath 7"> feel long by SO feet wide, this being rather smaller than the first proposal. Mr. M. A. Eliott. president of the Monawatu Philosophical Society, reported to a meeting of Hie council yesterday that his ■ firms agents in London were sending out by' the lonic a valuable collection of samples-: of wood, which would .be placed'in Hie inussiiii. A copy of the "New Zealand Gazette." the first paper published, in. the Dominion, bearing the date February G, 1811, was received from Mr. R., M'Nab, being a much earlier number than any at present in the museum. A presentation of a handsome rosebowl whs made to Miss Gau.-tad.at the weekly practice of the Palmerston Orchestral Society last, night. In makim the presentation, the conductor. Mr. A. J. Graham, referred to Miss Gaustad's seven years' service as pianist of' the-society; and honed that she would long continue to render them such valuable' artintio service. Mife Gaustad had b;on one of their regular and punctual members, a fa-'t which ' thev 'greatly appreciated. At the inquest concerning'tho death of the late, Mr. Callanan,. who passed away very suddenly on Sunday, the medical evidence showed that death'was due to heart failure.. .
