P.'Goodiirg, of Los Angeles, California, with certain inforiiiation relative to the fund, for insertion in a book he, is publishing On .'New Zealand., ,', ! ■" A' complaint' made by a' Mcip'ifchfc of ;a retiring allowance asto'-his, ■ agent, 'not behig allowed to' receive- 1 tho' ' allowance without tho production of a, lifo certificate, was considered by the beard, and an opinion from the Crown Law. Officers was placed beforo the board. Tho opinion fully endorsed the action taken by tho. secretary to tho board. ■ Certain . officers' in the Post'and":Telegraph Department wore granted .permission to count former service in' other Departments, the. servico having, been continuous. .... Tho case Was reported to the. board of an officer who Iliad served in the Post and Telegraph Department, and had been retired as medically unfit, 'and who is now carrying on a business—which.appeared, to point to tho fact that tho officer had'regained his health. It was decided that tho person in question should be required '.to submit himself for medical • reexamination. The secretary brought beforo the Jioard tho question'of officers being retired as medically unfit and the process required by tho Act to enable Mich cases to coino. before tho board. A new method was proposed, and adopted, by which Departments will require, to.satisfy the .board that adequate steps have ,bcen, taken .to. prove (hat persons proposed to be so re-' tired are in such a condition of health as to be entitled to tho benefits of (he Act. Tho secretary informed the board that the .amount at credit, of, the.fund,,,m tho' hands of tho Public. Trustoo and in tho post office, on'.June,3o,-3911!. was .0387,579 lis. Gd.
