Tho. progress of the conference is desci-fbed as being most satisfactory. Mr.'Borden and his Ministers lunched with their Majesties at Buckingham Palace. Mr. Asquith and his Ministers, and Lord Strathcona, lale High Commissioner for Canada, were also present. ;

A severe struggle on the Defence Committee, however,- reversed that intention. Ho believed the Canadian offer for Imperial defence would be =£1,100,000 every other year.
