TRANSPORT STRIKE RIOTS.
THREAT TO EXTEND THE DISPUTE. By Telegraph—Prcsa Association—Copyright London, July 14. There has been renewed rioting at Tilbury Docks. Sir Edward Grey's train was stoned. Two largo shipping firms received a deputation from the Strike Committee, and agreed, if the/strikers resume;! work, to rocogniso the Sailors' and Firemen's Unions, and- increase wages, but a deadlock occurred owing to th? men demanding tho recognition of the Transport "Workers' Federation.
ME. TOM MANN'S THREAT. . (Bee. July 15, 9.20 p.m.) London, July 15. Mr. Tom Mann, in a speech at Wolverhampton, declared that in tho event of tho strikers' negotiations with the Port of London Authority failing, he would possibly call out the whole of the Transport Workers of the United Kingdom. A demonstration by the Transport Workers in Hyde Park developed into disorder. The police were stoned and their horses kicked. Eight arrests were made.
. , I'EENCH POLICE STONED. Paris,, July 14. Seamen strikers, accompanied by their wives, made a.demonstration at Marseilles against the rise in the price of bread. They stoned the police. Ten of tho police and twenty strikers were injured, some 'seriously. Revolver shots were exchanged.. Sixty'arrests were made.
NEWCASTLE TROUBLE. Sydney, July 15. ' ' The Newcastle'wheelers and shiftsmen's executive has resigned after an uproarious meeting 'of the union. . The Colliery Employees' Federation having intimated that the position of the wheelers would be recognised, the threatened' trouble will now possibly be averted.,
(Eec. July 15, 10.10 p.m.) ' Sydney, July 15. Four hundred men. are idle at the •Helton colliery." The men refuse to work in wet'places.
TALLY CLERKS'.DEMANDS. ' : (Eec July 16, 1 a.m.) Sydney, Jdly 15. The wharf labourers at several wharves have refused to work with non-unionist tally clerks. The difficulty has been overcome by the substitution of unionist clerks. . ■ A significant request was recently made to ..the Shipping companies and the Stevedores' Association by the Clerks' Union for a conference to discuss wages and conditions. It was stated that if no conference was in tho meantime granted, a mass meeting would be held on Sunday to consider the situation. The clerks claim that they have the backing of the waterfront unions..
