FLOODS IN THE SOUTH.
6RAIN CONTINUES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchurch, July 15. On Saturday and yesterday the floods dropped steadily in the Kaiapoi, ltangiora, ami .Ashley districts, but last night u cold heavy rain set in again, so that this morning it seemed certain that matters would be worse than before the downpour continue. The water still lies so deeply about Haxton, Southbrook, and Kaiapoi that no fair estimate of the damage can be ai rived at. The land about Kangiora is well drained for the most part, but several small farmers about I.oburn are said to have had their crops washed out of the ground. The foot bridge on the main road across the ilakirikiri—a flimsy affair—is broken down. The Grey and Karatu are in flood, but are passable iby horses. -The Ohuku is oho in heavy flood, and as the bridge across it has been swept away, several hnnosteads are isolated. One of.the features of tho flood is that all the streams named have changed their courses, though still running'in their .usual beds. The Ashley io-dav sacmed much lower than on Staurdav.'
