They Mere staved off, ami for a time Goveruliient Life endeavoured to extricate themselves, but Baker drove them- back, and play removed in the Government Life twenty-five. This persistent attack eventually brought its reward for, from a. corner-hit, M'Gregor (centre-half) ski) in a stinging shot, and Metropolitan were one up. Government Life now made, repeated attempts to score, but their rushes seemed deficient in combination and vim at the moment for scoring, and linlf-time sounded with Metropolita.ll still 0110 up. With j live minutes gone and goals up against ' (hem, Wellington evidently thought that ■ it was goiug to be a repetition of tlieii College match. Two all. Karori now realised their "position, but they were- none the -loss in trouble. JTaasc secured, and after a good run, transferred to Paul, who made no mistake; Wellington, 3 goals; Karori, 2 goals. Play was now fierce. Parton, for Karori, made teveral fine runs, but Armstrong defended just as finely for Wellington. A % penalty "bully" now took place, Porter' haying obstructed; Murphy and Porter "bullied" in the circle, but. Porter saved the situation, and the tense excitement was over. It was almost half-time, before a. , score came, Andrews being tho agent. On resuming play was fast, and several times tho Iteds got within striking range, but their shots went wide. The ground, especially at tho northern end, was very bad, and several good rushes were thereby spoilt. Andrews, Collins, and Boyd manfully struggled for a goal, but .the. Wesley defence was dogged, and Birch, securing tho ball; rushed into the circle, and shot a splendid goal. The play was lkiw willing on'both sidee, but Wesley were having the better of the game.
