WHALER EAGLE IN PORT.
Quite unexpectedly tho . Norwegian whaler Eaglo put into port yesterday morning.. She is commodore's vessel of tho fleet of four steamers which arrived at Wellington from Norway via' Westport on Jiino 21, and it will lie remembered that, after being placed on the patent slip and reprovisioned, she loft for Rnssoll, sailing in company with the Hawk. Quitting tho northern port on Juno 23, she shaped si course for the Campbell and Auckland Islands. Seen yesterday Cap-' tain Henriksen stated that ho had made the cruise for two purposes. One was to ascertain whether payable whaling was to be got-on the Now Zealand coast, and tho islands mentioned. The other reason was to ascertain the best site on the Campbells or Aucklands for a whaling station. When questioned concerning the presence (or otherwise) of whales, Captain Henriksen stated that, during his long cruise, ho did not sight any, "but," he added, "the day I left the Campbell Islands, the New Zealand Whaling Company's boats secnral two small right whales." With regard to a whaling station, Captain Henrifcen went on to Bay that he had found a harbour suitable for a depot at the south end of tho Auckland Islands. , The Eagle will take in stores and leave for Russell to-day. '
