HAWKE'S BAY ESTATE PUEGHASED,
Several estates arc being inspected with a view to Uioir purch&so by the Crown for closer settlement. Tlio Minister for Lands (Hon. W. l< , . Mossey) stated on Raturdny morning that negotiations have hen opened with several land owners. Tho Government has completed tho purchase of the block of land in Hnwko's Bay, owned by Mr. Lethbridgc, and known as tho Sherenden Estate, for which, negotiations had hen going on for some- tiino with tho late Government, Tho pTpport-y comprises about 8300 acres, and eighty per. cent;, of tlio area is ploughnblc, and reported to bo suitable for close settlement. Tho Prime Minister has also given \ n . struolions to tho Land Purehnso Departincut to inspect several blocks suitable for workers' homos.
