PALMERSTON DAY BY DAY.
(Br TVleiraph.—Special Correspondent.! Palmerston, July 12. At the invitation of the Wanganui branch of the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt, the Manawatu hounds were to h'ave hunt> ed at Wangochu, but owing to the heavy rains and Hoods there, the hunt has had to bo cancelled for the present. Miss Drew was the guest of the evening at a "social" and dance at St, Peter's Schoolroom last night, and, during the evening, she was presented with a Eilver cake dish and other articles by parishioners. The liev. H. G. Eosher, in making the presenta,tion, referred to tho good work done for the church by Miss' Drew. A programme of vocal items were rendered, and dancing; and games made up a pleasant evening. Mis 3 Drew is shortly to be married. Miss Glendinning, who inaugurated the Men's Social Club, and who shortly leaves on a trip to Scotland, is to be entertained at a social gathering by the members of the club on August 5. Tho annuar church parade of tho local Orango Lodges is to be held on Sunday next at tho Wesleyan Church. As the result of a special canvas, the membership of the Men's Social Club has been increased by thirty. The Rugby football match between the representatives of Nelson and Manawatu is to tako place at Palmerston on Wednesday, Auppist 21: The Nelson team are to play Wairarapa on August 15, the Bush Union on August 17, Manawatu on August 21, Wanganui on August 24, and Afarlborough on' August 23.
