EARLY SPRING HATS.
Some of the new. hats already being shown at the ehops are veritable .bowers of floral garniture, masses of the most exquisite ■ roses, carnations, tulips, lilac, hydrangeas, and hyacinths, are put into hats, mostly placed on the crown, and rather high; some crowns are entirely floral, and flowors, especially roses, are on some models placed flat round brims and crowns. ~. Yellow is going to be the colour this sprijig.' The mustard and lime shndes are still with us, and are somewhat unbecoming, but tho former colour in magnificent plumes massed on a black hat, was a striking model. Black and white, we are promised much of, and it is always welcome; especially pleasing nre the models of block with white plumes or ospreys, and vice versa. A new style of trimming is the introduction of glace silk or chiffon, inset m the brim of straw hats, matching either tho straw or the trimming, and a variety of this on ono model showed a brim lining of narrow silk quillings. Lace seome to bo going to be used a good deal on tho summer hats, and in tho form of quillings it is very charming, forming a very soft setting to the face. Ruches of lace, too, arc seen on many of the hats, and ruches also of ribbon, usually with a narrow edging of some contrasting colour, white edging blue, and black edging cerise. . ■. Violot and cerise are. again to l>o seen after a little obscurity for this combination, and a beautiful hat of violet, tagel straw was trimmed with three very long cerise plumes. , . Feathers are as popular as ever, and as expensive. Masses of.them positively envelope some of the hats, and a beautiful model of grey straw had several long feathers of blue, shading to 6tone, enveloping it entirely. Shapes are very various, from a perfectly flat brim to one turned completely up in, front, and another at tho side. One model had the brim turned up at each side, almost cornerwise, and a crown of dull brown gathered tulle, crossed by a band of deep yellow roses., A black model, with crown of white tulle in ruches, and a black osrirey, was a becoming model, also a small bonnetlike toquo of 6traw, with a crown of massed roses and a • "shooter" of leaves. The shooter is quite a feature of the, new hats, whether of flowers, lace, or ribbon. In lace and combined , with ruches or-. quillings, it is very pretty. One very, stylish model, was of lime tagel straw, with a band of black velvet worked with vivid colours, and a lancer plume of vivid orange, shaded td smoke grey.. Another large model of the same fashionable colour had two plumes, one of royal blue, the other salmon pink, both shaded to grey.
