DALAI LAMA LEAVES TIBET.
HIS ENVOYS KILLED AT LHASA. By Tolceraph-Fress Association-Conyrlcht , Calcutta, July 10. The newspaper "Statesman" reports that the Dnlai Lama's envoys' to Lhasa were enticed into a monastery and killed, and that this news has caused the Dalai Lama to decide to return to India.
T.ho Dalai Lama fled to India from Lhasa in February,: 1910, on tho ground that his power ( and security were menaced l)y the Chinese. Hβ settled at DarjHing, and remained there until the beginning of last month, when he set out to return to Tibet, hoping to calm the disorder that arose there, after the proclamation of the Chinese Republic. The proclamations were posted in Lhasa on March 7, and the Chinese population thereupon discarded queues, the officials coming out in frock coats nnd top-hats, The Tibetans became restive under the new conditions, by which they became merely a portion of a Chinese province, , and took steps for tho extermination: of the Chinese. Much fighting ensued, and the struggle began to change into a general civil war.
