Kilbirnio had protested tigaanst any alteration of • tho tramway sections, and ngainst raising 'the fares. Miramar had held a meeting, also, and Maranui was strongly opposed to tho suggested changes. The proposed alterations, he-continued, would militate against the progress of tho district. The sections wcro now splondidlr arranged for Kilbirnie. Tho bone of contention as far as Kilbirnio was concerned was tho proposal to cut, down tho second outward section, 60. that instead ? ™"?f? a ¥° to g0 from Cowrtenay Place' to Wellington Road people would only l>o aWo to go from Courtenay Placo to Moxhain Avenuo for one penny. Ho advocated the abolition of. the concession tickets given to workers travelling before 8 o tho residential concession rickets. It was hard on some who travelled after 8 o'clock to havo to pay twice the amount "paid by tlioso who ennnced to go to work before 8 o'clock. Mr. J. Brodie asked tho council to consider the claims of tho suburban residents. He said that extension to tho suburbs .relieved pressure in the city. The council should consider tho advis'a.bility of revising the sections within the city. Tho city sections carried many visitors, and these sections, too, were tho costliest to maintain. Mr. J E, StauseU also spoko on .behalf of tho deputation. - The Mayor told the deputation that it was intended to hold a special meeting of the conncil on Monday next to go into the matter. He assured the deputation that their representations would bo carefully considered.
