(From Our Succlal Correspondent.) Mastorton, July 10. A conference of the officers and noncoms. of the C Division Mounted Rilies was held in Mastcrton to-day. These conferences are held-quarterly,'with a view to adjusting matters pertaining to general organisation. Forty-seven nominations have been received for the cCIOO championship pigeon match to be fired in connection with the Mastcrton Gun' Club on Thursday of next week. . ■ .' The Masitertoii Golf Club held its annual ball in tho Exchange Hall last evenlt'g. There was a large and fashionable gathering, and a most enjoyable time was spent. ( A sub-committee was set up by the Masterton County Council yesterday, to procure details and report upon tho desirability of procuring teams and a roadgrader for the council. Councillor C. C, Kebbell, in moving tho resolution, stated that the'mileage of roads within tho county wai yearly becoming greater, and tne difficulty in procuring labour ;'or contract work was becoming more acute. Tho Mastorton County Council deoided yesterday to ask the Akiiio County for a grant of .£l5O for the maintenance of the Aifredt-oa-Weber Road, and .£IOO ior Mie'.Waihoki Road. A' conferenco of representatives of the llastea-ton and East Coast Private Telephone Association was held yesterday to consider rules for a proposed nmalgaimv (ion. Nothing definite was done, ami tho meeting was adjourned to a future date. The engineer to tho MasteTton County Council reported yestorday that motorcar traffic was doing considerable damage to the roads in tho count}'.
