DEATH OF THE REV. G. H. ANDREWS. i, ' Oil July 8 the Mclanesian Mission steamer, Southern Cross, arrived at Auckland after her winter cruise in the Islands of New Hebrides and tho Solomon group. The R«v. H. N. Drummond, who has made the round trip on. board the vessel, supplied some details of the voyage and life in the Islands this morning upon arrival of the steamer after a fine weather passage. The Southern Cross arrived at Norfolk Island on April 23. Here some 70' ''boys" and their wives who had been undergoing a course of training at the Mission School in order to fit them to take up work as teachers ot their respective islands, joined the vessel and the voyage was resumed for Vil, the seat of Government of the NewHebrides Islands. The Southern Cross reached that station oil May 1 and then commenced her long cruise round the many islands at which the missionaries, working under the auspices of the Melanesian Mission, are stationed. It was found that there had been a great deal of sickness of a more or less, serious nature amongst those labouring in the group, but happily upon the arrival of the Southern Cross practically all were ablo to report a clean bill of health. At Bugotu the news was received of the death of the Rov. G. H. Andrews, formerly of St. John's College. ■ Mr- An-drews-passed away under somewhat sad circumstances, being alone with one of his Native deacons at the time of death. A white man arrived just a few •minutes later. Mr. Andrews was buried next to Dr. Welshman, who died on tho Island three or v four years ago. , In speaking of lhe work of lhe missionaries genprnlly Mr. Drumniond staled that a grcn t. deal j* being accomplished for tlip N'alivos and that it was apparent thai tlie inlluouce for good is becoming more widespread each year.
