Dance at New Century Hall. The Social Committee of the Unitarian Clmrch held a dance last night, in the New Century Hall, Kent Terrace, when about fifty couples were present. The stage was comfortably furnished for tho chaperones, and hung with flags and further decorated with greenery. Upstairs a dainty supper was served, and tho tables were artistically decorated with vases of jonquils and long-stemmed viorir t el »I*w>»» present were:—Mrs. 11 | ! WI ! S wearing a gown of saxebluo velvet, with corsage drape of Maltese laces Mrs. Geddes, in black nlnon over white, with gold trimming; Mrs. Stevens, in black satin and cream lace; Mrs. Spragg, m black velvet; Mrs. Baldwin, in moss-green velvet; and Mrs. Macdonald, m black ninon, with trimming of dullcoloured embroidery, and beads to match. Among tho dancers were:—Mrs. Hamcr, in deep red velvet; Miss Oakley Brown, m yellow silk, with an overdress of spangled ehifTon; Miss A. Oakley Brown, U l *i\ a silver trimming; Miss Buckley ! (England), in pale pink ninon; Miss Macdonald, in white muslin; Jfiss A. Macdonald, in ,black velvet; Miss Warmsley, in black niiion over rose-pinlc charmeuse; Aliss in white, with touches of palo blue; Miss West, in pink ninon, with satin bands of paler shade; Miss Winder, in palo blue charmeuse; Mrs. Petherick, wearing white silk, with gold embroidery; Miss Buckley, in black velvet; Miss Geddes, white satin, draped with laco, and pink rosebuds. A large and energetic committee were responsible for the excellent arrangements. .Mr. Forrest acted as M.C. Lecture by Dr. Gunn. At .a largely-attended meeting of the Wellington Nursing Division, Dr. E. Gunn delivered a lecture on "Home Hygiene." ' Tho subject was illustrated by lantern-slides,, under the direction of Mr. Baldrop, which materially enhanced the interest displayed by members. At the conclusion, hearty votes of thanks to Dr. Gunn were carried by acclamation.
All Pioneer Club fixtures are cancelled for this week, owing to the death of Miss Anna Richmond, the sister of the president, Miss Mary Richmond. The Public Trust Office hold its.annual danc« in tho Sydney Street Hall on Thursday, August 1. Miss Margery Michie is staying with Mrs. W. Watson on the Terrace, she returns to England very shortly. The Girl Peace Scouts and their leaders are meeting at Mr. Rovd Garlick's rooms, Panama. Street, on Friday evening at 7.30. Mrs.. Ernest H. Quoree has received interesting letters from her talented daughter, Miss Rene Queree, who left Welling-, ton some months ago to complete her pianoforte training under tho tuition of Madame Carreno. Miss Queree stated that Madame Carreno was in London when she arrived in May, and she had the pleasure of hearing her play at the Queen's Hall. After the recital she called on Madame, and was received with great kindness. Tuition was commenced at once, and for a.fortnight they remained in London. Carreno. had then nrranged to spend a five or six weeks' holiday in Bavaria, and to Miss Queree's delight she invited her to go with her before they both settled down for a time in Berlin.
On Monday, July 18, at her residence, in Hobson Street, the death , took place of Miss Anna 1 Wilson Richmond, second daughter of tho late Mr. Justice Richmond. Miss Richmond, who has been an invalid for a considerable period was in her fifty-eighth year, and leaves four sisters and three brothers—Mrs. Dr. Fell, of Wellington, Mrs. E. Blake, of England, and tho Misses Mary E. Richmond and E. Richmond, of this city, Jlessrs. C. F. Richmond, Sydney, A. Richmond, Feilding, and It. R. Richmond, Wellington.
Miss Winifred Griffiths, 8.A.. of tho . Missionary Settlement. for University Women, Bombay, is giving a series of farewell addresses in connection with her work throughout New Zealand. Miss Griffiths lias resigned her position as a university settler in view of her approaching marriage, which takes place at Bombay this year. ' Tho annual "ladies' night" in connection with the Wellington Savage Club has been fixed for Saturday week, and as usual the talented members of the club are preparing a bright and original programme. Socially, the evening is regarded as one of the most enjoyable functions of the year. , On Tuesday afternoon a tea was given by Mrs. Chas. Collins, Island Bay, in honour of Miss Hoby, whose marriage to Dr. Haterleigh Deck, of Sydney, will shortly take place. The function was. a very pleasant one, and was greatly enjoyed by those present. Music and an interesting competition added to the . pleasure of the gathering. First place in tho competition was tied for by Mrs. ' Godber, and Misses Fossette and 0. Hart. Miss Eoby received many dainty handkerchiefs from the gueste present.
