ROYALIST INVASION.
FIGHTING IN PORTUGAL. By Telecrapli—Presß Association—Oopyrielit Lisbon, July 8. Valenca was treated lightly by tho Royalist force whioh endeavoured to tnko possession of it, but small bodies of tho attackers are reported in many places. Captain Couceiro, with four hundred men, is in tho vicinity of Montalegre (sixty-six miles north-cast of Oporto, near the frontier of Gnlicia, Spain), to which place Republican troops liflvo been sent. Reinforcements aro also proceeding to Oporto. Tho Royalists unsuccessfully attempted to blow up the railway bridge at Caminlia. AMMUNITION SEIZED. Madrid, July 8. 'A 1 largo quantity of ammunition lias been seized on a motor-car which was approaching the Portuguese frontier. JTho chauffeur had previously cut a. telegraph line between Spain and Portugal. A sunien boot has been discovered at Bastiero, near Corona, with 44,000 Spanish cartridges on board. FIGHTING AT CHAVEZ. (Rec. July 10, 0.55 a.m.) Lisbon, July 9. The Royalist forces under Conceiros and Carackos functioned at Chavez, and were routed by the Republican, troops after five hours' fighting. There were considerable losses.
The outbreak is attributed to the decision of the Spanish, and Portuguese Governments to intern all Portuguese conspirators found on the frontiers.
Madrid, July 9. The Premier, Senor Canalejas, on being interviewed, stated that orders had been issued for the repression of Portuguese conspiracy on' the Spanish side of tho frontier. Tho whole movement was an absurd adventure, and had failed.
