YESTERDAY'S PROCEEDINGS. Tho meeting of tho Anglican Synod of tho Diocese, of Wellington was resumed at tho Sydney Street Schoolroom yesterday afternoon, tlio Bishop of Wellington (Dr. Sprott) presiding. Tho Rev. A. M. Johnson was re-elected a Governor of tho Hndfield Hostel. Mr. L. 0. 11. Tripp was appointed a trustee of the "Wellington Diocesan I'ension Fund Trust Board, in place, of the late Mr. W. If. Quick. ■Tho Bishop of Wellington was asked to frame rules for tho 'constitution of tlie Selwyn Guild, nn organisation authorised by the Synod of 1910. TERRITORIAL CAMPS. Tho Rev. E. Hermon moved: "That this Synod desires to express its deep depreciation of the Rood work done during the past year by the members of tlio Church of England Men's Society in connection with the Territorial camps." The mover said that/they had just concluded tho first year of training under tho new defence scheme, and from ten to thirteen thousand young men had been put through their course. Tho reports upon the discipline and general conduct of tho young men were highly satisfactory, and this, ho contended, was largely duo to the efforts of tho Church of England Men's Society, tho Y.M.C.A., and kindred organisations. This now system of training offered a splendid opportunity for the Church to get into close touch with the I young men of tho country, and ho hoped that every effort would be put forth by tho Church of England Men's Society to mako the greatest possible- uso of this opportunity. Mr. Hernion desired to record his deep appreciation, of the kindly assistance and co-operation of Mr. 11. N. M'Leod (representing tho Y.M.C.A.) at tho artillery camp at Aorangi. Captain J. T. Hnll seconded the motion, ajid remarked that the movement inaugurated by the C.E.M.S. and other religious bodies had the full approval and sympathy of tho general officer commanding and tho officers of tho general staff. (Applause.) The motion was corned. AN OLD VICARAGE. The Rev. A. S. Innes-Jones moved: "That this Synod recommends tho Diocesan Board of Trustees to obtain the pormission/'of tho General Synod to soil the vicarage at Feilding, together ■ with the acre on which it stands, the proceeds of such fialo to bo expended in the erection of a new vicarage on a site to bo apsroved5 roved of "by tho Bishop and the Archeacon of Rangitikei, such new vicarage and land to be handed over to tho Diocesan Board of Trustees when freed irom till encumbrance." Tho motion was seconded by Archdeacon. Harper. Mr. C. P. Powles po'inted out that under the rules the proceeds from tho salo of land could only be applied to the purchase of other land. Archdeacon Fancourt said that that matter might be left to the general Synod to bo determined. Tho motion was carried. "CHURCH CHRONICLE."
On the.motion of the E«v. Jcehua Jones tho Synod approved of tho deletion of the item of £20 appearing , as a liability to tho "Church Chronicle" on tho report of tlio General Church Fund, and as an asset on the report of the "Church Chronicle" Committee, from both reports. This followed upon a suggestion in the annual report that as the "Church Chronicle" was now in ft prosperous condition, the donation to that publication from the General Church Fund might now be discoiatinued. VOGELTOWN SECTIONS. Mr. B. Wilberfoss moved: "That the Diocesan Trustees be authorised to apply to General Synod for permission to ecl'l sections 354 and 375, Vogeltowii, and that they retain in trust the proceeds of any sale for such purposes as this Synod may hereafter decide." The mover said that, the principal reason for the step proposed was that they were paying M a. year in rates and taxes, and the land was no uso to them. They had held tho land rince 1877. Mr. G. Shirtcliffo thought that tho Diocesan Trustees might obtain a report from tln> various trustees with rcsnrcl to other odds and cuds «f land that might with advantage be sold. Mr. C. V. Powles again reminded the Synod that tho-rule compelled them to reinvest in land. The motion was carried. AN UNWIELDY PARISH. . "On tho motion of Archdeacon Harper, tho Bishop and the Standing Committee were requested to effect tho division of the Baetihi parochial district as fcon as possible.
Speaking to the motion, Archdeacon Harper said that the area of the Kaetihi parish, the newest parish in the Dominion, covered something like 2000 square mile?, and one corner of the vicar's parish was 68 miles from thp vicarage. The incumbent (the I!ev. 0. M. Stent) recently rode 100 miles to preside at a baptism.
