Courtly, Epworth, Postillion, Ncirene, Icol, Grandee, Mediterranean, Pawanui, Simila, Fionacre, and St. Serf. NOTES AND COMMENTS. """: [Br Glencoe.] The decision of tho Canterbury Jockey Club, to amend the nomination of Captain Jinglo is only fair and reasonable, lhe' owner of the horse distinctly wrote Steeplechase in his telegram, but unfortunately tho sender of the wire- or the receiver mado a mistake, and tho word Hurdles was substituted for Steeplechase. The owner of the horso obtained certified copies of the original wire, and sent the same to tho C.J.C., with the result announced.
By tho Mokoia, which should arrive here some time this morning, the racehorses Master Theory, Taiaha (in charge of D. Moraghan), Tui Cakabau, and La Eeina (J. Rao), Captain Jingle and Amaru (J. Hennah) will arrive, and'will be railed to Trentbam this afternoon.
The Salvadan gelding- Black Northern, and two of G. Colello's team from Napier will arrive'here by the express train tonight.
Peary, the Karamu maiden, is greatly fancied in the Hawkc's Bay district for the Winter Cup. It is rather a big thing for a maiden performer to win a Winter Cup, and, so far, this has not been done. ■
The New Zealand pony, Paul, who was taken to Sydney in May, was again heavily backed at the Ascot meeting- on June 29, but ho ran badly.
A. Julian has returned, to Auckland (says the "Star"). \The fractured collarbone he received was not a very bad one, and he expects to be in tho saddle again shortly. His medical adviser gave the opinion that ho would probably bo able (o ride at the Wellington meeting, but Jhat it would bo risky, and, under the circumstances, the Auckland horse- ' man has wisely decided not to attempt any race riding until the C.J.C. National meeting. .
Tho steeplechaser Okaihau has, so it is reported, been sold to Mr. D. Hawkins, of Tuparoa, and will, it is reported, run in his new owner's interests at Trenthain. He is to leave Ellerslio on his southern trip on Thursday. Tho price paid was 300 guineas.
F. Porter, trainer of Te Arai, was greatly surprised to find tho old gelding nominated in the Grand National Steeplechase. Tho gelding is not in work, and has no chanco of seeing the post. At present ho is running out in tho paddock, with another old veteran—Te liainui.
A. meeting of stewards of the Wairarapa Racing Club was held at Feathersfcon on Monday afternoon, when the annual statement of revenue and expenditure was submitted. There will' be a debit balance of .£326 19s. 3d. on the working account as at July 31. This constitutes tho club's only liability. The principal receipts for tho past year were:—Totalisator, £ibli 11s. 10d.; gates, £W 195.; entry and acceptance- fees, JC99-1 10s.;- members' subscriptions, j>2BB. On Hie expenditure side, stakes amounted to .£3265; stamp duty on receipts, ,£lll2 Bs. 4d.; building and improvement, 4s. 10d. j salaries and wages, ,£118!) os. Bd.
