FORTIFICATION OF FLUSHING.
THE BILL REVISED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyriuat (Rec. July 8, 10.45 p.m.) The Hague, July 8. The Government has revised tho Coast Defence Bill, reducing tho total cost to •f11.000,000. The fortifications at Flushing, are estimated to absorb .£150,000. Tho original scheme involved an expenditure of .£3,170,000, of which £130,000 was to he devoted to tho fortification of flushing. It was alleged that the scheme to fortify the sea coast, while leaving tho defences on the land frontier uustrengthcued, was due to German instigation. Thiswas denied by the. Dutch Foreign Minister who said the object was. to be prepared for any menace to Dutch independence.
