trrom Our Special Correspondent.) t HUTT COURT. Mr. J. S. Evans, S.M., presided over a sitting of tho Hutt Court held on Friday. Two boys, for interfering with the brakes on a railway train, wero severely admonished by the magistrate and discharged. John Gordon was charged with felling adulterated milk. The defendant, who did not appear, forwarded a written ■ statement. The police,.,when asked by the Bench, said defendant had been a milk vendor for the past 27 years, and the prosent was tho first oncasion on which he had appeared before the Court. His Worship remarked that Gordon's explanation was not sufficient, and he would be convicted and fined 55., costs 7s.
Wise and Dibble (Mr. Cracroft Wilson) proceeded against E. E. Pay to recover the sum of £o 13s. 7<l. for goods supplied. Defendant sivoro that he had not. earned more than ss. per week for the past three months. He was a cutter by trade, but through an accident was' laid up for 18 months. The house he lived in wns in his wife's name, the first mortgage being held by the Government, and he was unable to meet tho interest on the loan. No order was made.
Tho following are the estimates for the current year which have been approved by the Hutt River Board. The total receipts, including a balance of .£lB carried forward, are put down at ,£2O-1!). The principal items are as follow.—Rates' (due). .6520; :rates (outstanding),' -JS80; rents (due), £7M); rents (outstanding), .£210; Gear Company, in settlement of claim, .171; Petone Borough Council, for purchase of land in connection with Hutt Pipe Bridge approaches, JCJOO. The proposed expenditure amounts to ,£IB7O, ,£JOO of which will be spent in maintenance,'. ,£97G on projected new works, and the remainder on general and office expenses. The estimated surplus is .£17.1. The board decided that the rates would be the eamc this year iis ruled last year.
At Lower Hutt on Friday evening a successful concert was given by the Good Intent Juvenile Lodge (1.0. G.T.). There was a very largo attendance, and each' item pleased the audience. .Mrs. J. A. Lcdbrook was secretary of the alFair.
