PASTORALISTS IN PROTEST. |By Tclezraph—Press Association-Copyright Sydney, July 5. A deputation of pastoralists and stock breeders protested to Mr. Beeby, Minister for Lands, against the proposed wholesale resumption of properties near railways for the purpose of closer settlement. Mr. Beeby, in hia reply, said the Government intended constructing twelve new railways this year, and it must encourage —if necessary by force—the settlement ol areas served by theso railways. The progress of the country was centred in the immigration question. They were approaching a crisis, naid the Minister, when the people would demand a new principle of land ownership whereby tho land served by railways must bo put to thq fullest use.

He advised the deputation to stave eff the evil day, nnd assist tho Government by voluntarily dividing their holdings.
