RED DEER.
WEEDING THE HERDS. Special regulations empowering tho Wellington Acclimatisation Society to weed out the aged and deformed of both sexes from the red r'eer herds in this district were published in a supplement to tho Gazette issued yesterday. Tho new regulations are as follow:— 1. , Notwithstanding anything contained in the regulations made under tho Animals protection Act, ICOS, the secretary of tho Wellington Acclimatisation Society at Wellington, or any person or persons duly authorised in writing by such secretary, may, during the period hereinafter mentioned, kill red deer of either sex and of nay age which in the opinion of tho said secretary or of the said authorised persons should bo destroyed either by reason of age, deformity, or other physical imperfection.
2. Such deer may be destroyed as aforesaid during a period of two months from tho date hereof.
3. A return shall ho furnished to tho Minister for Internal Affairs by tho said secretary within onu calendar month after the expiry of tho aforesaid period, and such return shall state the. number and sexes of all .red deer so destroyed as aforesaid, tho dates, and namo of the person by whom and the locality in which tho deer wore destroyed.
4. Nothing herein contained ehall extend to authorising any person to fell nny deer or any portion thereof.
5. Any person who commits a breach of any of the provisions of tlieso regulations shall be liablo to a penalty not exceeding cE2O.
