NOTES OX TriE RACING. The Gisborue Club was favoured with (,'lorioiis weather for its Winter meeting. Jumping horses were scarce, but fho flat iivpiits wore fairly well lille<l. Thero was i<. large crowd of visitor--.
Auckland h-irsus hail a, day out, and won the thren jumping went.-','in addition to the Winter Oats, in whbh Admiral Soult. scored after having started previoiislv.
The Auckland horse Master Theory was slightly more preferred than l'nUaiio nn the machine for the hurdle race. V'roin an even Mart the five runners raced at the first fence together. Pnisano, on the inside, jumped it wotl, as did Dogger Bank and Gainc, but Master Theory rmi off, and took BaJdos with him. Both horse.-, however, continued on in the race. Viih half a mile gone Master Theory ami Dogger lia-k were out in front followed by dame and J'aistwo, with B.ildos tailed oil'. Af 'he seven furlongs tho latter again inn oil', and I'uiS'ino' joined .Master Theory The Gis'uarnc hnrso was on Iho outside, and lwpt the Aucklaniler in, and the pair jumped the remaining two fences well. M.vster Theory had most paco on the lint,, and won easily at the linish. After tho ivico a protest was entered against Master Theory for running off, but it was dismissed. Multiply, as was anticipated, was a good favourite, in the Maiden Race. He proved his worth, for, after being badly placed at the half-distance, he came through and won nicoly. Dceley had the mount in tho Wanganui-owncd St. Helena, who ran second. Field Force (Marshal Soult—Castor Lace) was clo.'o up third ,aml in fourth place was Nigel, who showed a .lot of pace, but could not Bse out the distance. Several of the runners were well backed for the Flying Handicap, in which a useful field went to the post. The winner was Cahcr Davou (Glenapp—Lady Augusta), who is a very line-looking horse, and was reported as the superior to Multiply on the tracks. The winner stopped badly at the finish, but this was only on account of greenness. Cullinan ran' over a lot: of ground, and was on the outside of several horses at tho turn. So was Bally Shannon, t who finished third. Scorch and Ardfe'rt both showed pace early in the race, b'ut neither had n ehanco at the h'ni-h. Armagh, who comes from .T. Williamson's Ellerslie stables was the winner of the Oishorne. Stoeples, but there was the lisnal clement of luck about the victory, as had Homiib Jean. I ho full sister to lied M'Grojor and Capitol, been better handled, she would have won. Bonnie Jeau gave a great exhibition of jumping, and did not touch a f«nce, hut her rider kept. he,r at it too hard, and in the end sho failed to stall off a strong run. Armagh, the winner, ran in. heavy bandnges, but except for n. couple of fences he jumped well. Tui Cakotau wns in trouble tho whole way, and bucked over most of tho fences, though he got round safely. Quandary and Tβ Rahui fell, but neither rider was injured. Amaru was backed down to a very shorl price in the Haek Race, and sho won in lioHjh , fashion. Sylverlyto, the, hnlfbrother to California, wai next in demand on the machine, and he followed Amaru home. The rest of. tho field were a very poor lot, and in point of condition Amaru stood alnno, while Sylverlyto looked on the big side. At the finish o'f the race Amaru was only cantering, but Urn whip was out nn the second horse to shake off Compliment. The remainder finished a long way back. The Tramway Steeplechase was a fiasco, nA out of tho four runners'only Taiaha got roun.l safely. Captain Jingle was a hot favourite, and after being 100 yards behind, ho made up a lot of ground nt the turn into the straight, the first lime. He then led over I lie double onpnMlc the stand, lml at (he seeoml fence, ho ran off and npsel o camera man and his paraphernalia. At the next fence Swnrthmoor ran off. This left Taiahn in front with To liolnii fcdlnwinp him. The liittiir fried to pel off at the bottom of Hie course nnd ran into the wins of Hie Imiit. Tflinlu. had now n hum lend and ran in n quarter of a mile ahead of Te llnhui. who w:i* remounted and finished fornnd. The winner i« by the Government imported sire Sinclrstick U and is trained by D. As they entered the straight: the l-rio were praelieally level. A rood finish then took place.
