RAILWAY OFFICERS.
UNREST IN MUST DIVISION. (By Telegraph-Press Association.) Auckland, July 3. A special meeting of tho Auckland branch of tho Rwlnay Officers' lnslituto was held to-night to dismiss the failure of tho Minister for Iwiilwnys to curry <-n the recommendations cf tho Parliamentary Railways Committee of tho 1011 session. The following resolutions wero carried :--(l) That this meeting views with a feeling of keen disappointment and indignation tho action of the Minister for Railways in declining to carrv out tho findings of the Railways Committee of the l'Jll session, thereby failing to aliav tlio discontent and unrest now obtaining in tho first division of the railway service. (2) This meeting, believing the Minister to have been misled by figures supplied to tho management relative to 'tho • nnual recurring cost of, the Institute's requests, urges upon him the inndvisabilUy of depending for Hiformatimi in this respect upon a source which has shown itself openly opposed to the interests uf tlio officers. (3) This branch views with grave alarm tho action of the Minister in refusing tho reasonable requests of officers, and, at tho sime time, making substantial concessions to tho public, (t) While reaffirming our loyalty to the liepartment, wo desire to express our en tiro confidence in our executive, and will heartily support cny steps they may take to have our. just claims given effect to. At a meeting of tho Westland branch of the New Zealand Railway Officers' Institute, tho following resolutions were carried unanimously :—(1) The Westland branch of the New Zealand Railway Officers' Institute enters n most emphatic protest against the action of the .Minister for Railways in refusing to give effect to tho recommendations of the Parliamentary Committee, who last session reported upon tho petition of railway officers. (2) The branch also asks the executive to place full particulars of tlio Parliamentary Committee's recommendations in tho possession of every newspaper in the country, «> that the public may have an opportunity of judging for themselves the justice of the claims of railway officers and the treatment received by them at the hands of Messrs. Millar mid Myers. (3) The. branch heartily endorses tile proposal of file executive to asrain appeal tn Parlislfont, and urges them, in addition, to mnkc- a strong appeal to each individual member of Parliament to assist the railway officers to obtain what Parliament intended foT them. H) That this brai.ch expresses entire i-onfidciicc. in the f\ccutive of the New Zealand Railway Officers' Inshiute.
