Hardy said that, if it had not been tor the limdist ideas of tlio Department, they would not bo troubled with tho present scarcity of tehool teachers. Tne Department seemed to be trying to put obstacles in the way of the board, if the Department had been better managed in the past, the board v:ould not be troubled as it was. He moved: "That the letter should be relerred to tiic appointments committee for consideration and report." Mr. T. AV. Adams, in speaking af tlio work of the commission, said that he hoped that one- resv.lt would be that many of the objectionable regulations would be withdrawn. Tho chairman (Mr. M. Dalziol) said that lie doubted whether, by applying to Great Britain for certificated teachers, they would obtain a letter class of teachers. Mr. \V. I!. Smith said that commercial pursuits were attracting the best young men and women. Ue was not in iavour of applying to Uic Old Country for teachers. They should extend the inducement) for Now Zealand young people to enter the profession. The motion was carried.
