BATTLESHIP'S MARVELLOUS ESCAPE.
SHELL FALLS 30 FEET IN MAGAZINE

London, July 1. ' Whilst members of the crew of H.M.S. Thunderer were engaged in filling her magazine at Dovonport,. and were just on the point of completing the work, a shell for the; vessel's monster 13.5-inch guns slipped from the sling and fell a distanco of 30ft. on to tho magazine floor.
The crew were horrified and rushed somo distanco away, but though the fuse was dented by tho contact with the flooring, by a miracle it did not explode. If it had done so it would have destroyed the ship.'
Further worlc was suspended to enable the men to recover from tho shock.
Tho Thunderer is one of the latest battleships to go into commission. She has a tonnage of 22,5(H),_nnd her' main armament consists of 13.5-inch guns. Her complement would oonsist of between 700 and 800 men.
