There is a Shakespeare Society in Germany, and it published the other dav the statistics of the performances of Shakespeare's plays in tho German kingmigc (that is, on tho stages of Germany, Austria, and German Switzerland) in the cour.-:e of 1911-12. "Othello" was played 158 times by GO companies, tho "Merchant of Venice If>o limes bv 50 companies, and "Jlamlct" 111 times by '"> companies. Then follow "Koinco and [Juliet." 'J I performances by l(i companies; "Midsummer's Night's Dream, St performances by 27 companies; "As You Like It," 82 performances by 21! companies; "Julius Caesar." 6,1 performances by 19 companies; and /Winter's Tale," GO performances by 20 companies. The rear in Ihe list ia brought up by "King Lear." .13 perform; antes by 15 companies; "Kichard III," 2!) poriormancps by 10 companies; "Macbeth," 17 performances by six companies; "Coi'iolanus," six performances by two companies; "Richard II," five performances by two companies; "Tempest, two performances by one company; and "Merry AVives of Windsor," one performance by one company.
