« LECTURE BY MR. PEACOCK. An extra meeting of the New Zealand Society of Accountants (Wellington branch) was held in tho Chamber of Commerce on Thursday night, when a lfcturo on "Mechanical Aids for the Accountant" was delivered by Mr. E. R. Peacock, J.P., of the. Peacock Business Systems Co., Melbourne. The lecturer outlined the basic principles of accountancy from the time of the old Italian merchants and financiers up to the huge departmental organisation of the United Slates, and explained a number of systems in use by various business concerns. He demonstrated the methods of adding and calculating by means of niechnnic.il applianoes. During the evening practical illustrations were givon with tho Comptometer, tho Millionaire, and the Elliott-Fisher Ledger Posting Machine. Mr. Peacock, who was assisted by Miss Hawkins and Mr. Lind, was accorded a hearty voto of thanks.
