6 • AID TO WAIHI REFUSED. At a meeting of tho Wellington Painters' Union held last night, a letter was received asking it the union was prepared to render any financial assistance to the miners on strike at Wailii and Reefboii. There was a proposal beto-re the meeting to vote the sum of X 5, but this was lost, and tho matter was not further referred to. Tho union endorsed tho proposal of tho Trades and Labour Council to form a district council under the United Labour party, and decided to become affiliated to that party through its own federation.
