_4 SUMMARY AND FORECAST. Present indications arc for southerly and south-easterly winds, strong to gale, much colder weather, rain in many parts of the country, anil snow on higher levels. The barometer will probably rise fast everywhere soon. Heavy rain has been experienced in many parts of the Dominion, and snowhas fallen on higher levels in parts of the South Island. . Westerly gales have been reported in the north, and the winds ia-vo changed to the southward in the south. The barometer fell during the night D. C. BATES.
