TIMARU PROTESTS.
"IN THE INTERESTS OF ECONOMY." (By Telegraph.—l'ress Association.) Timaru, June 18. Some years ago a good deal of minor railway rolling-stock repairs used to bo eliected at Tinmru, a carpenters' and u blneksmiths' shop with lieeessnry hands being maintained there. About 1908 a policy of gradually sending all such work to Addiligton Was adopted, and Mr. Craigie, member for Timaru, has fre(|uentl.v protested against tho loss of work and workmen to the town. Last week he telegraphed lo Ihe Minister for Railways a protest against a recent removal of men. In reply the Minister telegraphs that the policy was adopted in the interests of eomomy, nnd 110 regrets that he en mint alter Ihe arrangement. It. lias been arranged, however, to maintain a store for material and carpenters for bridge work at Timaru.
