ANNUAL EXHIBITION OPENS. A R-ECORD ENTRY OF CANARIES. ; The Wellington Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Society opened its thirtieth an- • nual show yesterday afternoon in St.. Peter's Schoolroom. Tho gathering is a, very attractive one, no fewer than 810 birds being caged. The total is made up as follow-.—Poultry, 250; pigeons, 260; and canaries, 300. The entry of canaries constitutes a record, and a considerable number of outside breeders arc represented in this .and tho other sections. The association has'a large number of special medals and prizes, in addition to the ordinary prize list, hilt the.ie were not all available last evening. In the allocations made, Mr. J. D. Iremonger won the society's J)-10 10s. trophy for the best bird in six. different classes, with his Silver Wyandotte cock, and lie also carried oil tho Fanciers' Cup for most points in Silver Wyandottes. The Fanciers' Cup for most points in White Wyandottes was again won by Mr. R. Wanden, of Blenheim. /Ml'. C- Brattle, of Ngaio, workoutright the Fanciers' Cup for most points, in black rose comb bantams. The special' prize for the best Golden or Silver Haniburg in the show fell to Mr. S. Curd, o.f Hastings. The Aladeley Shield, for most points in modern game, went to Mr. P. Murphy, and Mr. J. Currie's gold inedal for the best, bantam in tho show to Mr. T. Wilkinson, of Christchurch. A'Christchurch breeder, Mr. 6. A. Hales, also carried off the Magpie Cup. Mr. S. Otley, of Christchurch, took another pigeon cup, the Frill Cup.
